What is happiness?

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” - Mahathma Gandhi

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” - Dalai Lama

“Happiness is the first sip of Dr. Pepper in the mornings or the
sunrays coming through the kitchen of the first home you’ve bought.
It’s the small hug from your children, or the simple forehead kiss
from your husband. It’s the first cry of a newborn child, and the
sloppy kisses from a toddler. It’s the laughter that makes you cry, or
the tears that fall from pure joy. Happiness is the homemade meal from
your mother’s kitchen that she made with lots of love. Happiness isn’t
about the money, the careers, or anything materialistic. It’s the
small moments, the moments that pass much to quickly. The moment’s
that when you are old and look back at your life that make you smile.
This is what happiness is. ” - DeAnna from The Outnumbered Nest

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude” - Denis Waitley

“To be kind to all, to like many and love a few, to be needed and wanted by those we love, is certainly the nearest we can come to happiness.” - Mary Stuart

“Happiness is something I trained my mind to find in every little thing. How else could we get through life honestly? I’m happy when I change the bed sheets and I just thrown myself in afterwards. When I finish cooking and take the first sip of the soup; when he goes like ‘OMG love what did you do here it’s awesome!!’ The scent of cinnamon also makes me happy, along with the fresh feeling you have when you get out of the shower. I’M HAPPY WHEN I SHOP  And I could go on like this forever. It’s all about the small things.“ - Alexandra from Experiencing Life

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.“  (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)
“Happiness is holding someone in your arms and knowing you hold the whole world.” - Orhan Pamuk

“For me, happiness is a lifestyle, a hope, a deep seated joy that sits in the base of your stomach.  Happiness is what bubbles up from your heart when you see babies smile, puppies play, or the elderly hold hands.  It’s what I feel when I’m deep in worship, hands lifted high, lost in song.  Happiness is letting go of this world’s clutter and focusing on the divine, the hope of eternity, the essence of love that connects each of us.  Happiness isn’t a fleeting feeling, it’s an underlying current  - not always felt, but always there, ready to surface at the perfect time and place.” - Haley from Words of Wellness by Haley J Snyder

“It’s like Tolstoy said. Happiness is an allegory, unhappiness a story.” - Haruki Murakami

“All happiness depends on courage and work.”  - Honoré de Balzac

“What is happiness for me? I just recently learned some new things that actually allows me to answer this question. I have been on a personal struggle as of late trying to figure out why I couldn’t be happy. The last two to three years to be exact. It took someone telling me “Only worry about the things you can control.” We are in charge of our own happiness. We make our own choices which in turn shape our lives. The choices might not always be the best ones, and they may even take us down the wrong path. But those are life lessons and we are meant to learn from them. Once we learn from them, they help us to make better choices. For me, I found that one statement meant everything to my happiness, which I’ve learned is quite simple to reach. It was about getting rid of the drama in my life and toxic people, you know, the ones that just simply drain you of all your energy. They drain you of your spark and your spirit. So in answer to your question, happiness for me involves two places, at home on my front porch, or the porch at my parents’ cabin. Happiness is my children, and warm summer evenings with them on our porch at home with iced coffee in hand, and having deep conversation and good laughs. It’s my parents’ cabin porch on a spring morning, listening to songs of birds, or their mating calls. A fresh cup of coffee and smelling the fresh air. It’s listening to old music from Louis Armstrong, to Frank Sinatra, to Van Morrison. It’s disconnecting yourself from technology for a little while and just being present in every moment.  Happiness is about not taking life for granted and being thankful for every breath you get to take while in this lifetime. All this is what makes me happy.“ - Pamela from Embracing The Positivity

“Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.”  - Guillaume Apollinaire

“Happiness depends upon ourselves.” - Aristotle

“Happiness to me is making others happy without expecting anything back. It may sound like I’m playing it "safe” by not getting disappointed by not expecting, but to me there’s happiness in doing something for others purely for their happiness. For me, happiness is only real when shared. I find most of my happiness when I travel and make memories.” - Tasica from Tasica Paulini

  13. Some people find happiness very elusive. I have episodes of anxiety and depression so I make it a point to find happiness even on the simplest of things -- a yummy dessert, a nice article, a good book, lunch with the family :)

  25. Happiness can vary depending on one's priorites, to some it may be family, or food, or travelling. It all differ but one thing is for sure, someone has a specific source of happiness. We can't question their choices at all, we can only choose to be happy for them too. :)
