If you're having a bad day

Ice cream in Florence a while ago
If you're having a bad day... have some ice cream.

You know, when you’re feeling bad things like “you’re amazing, you deserve the best, you’re a queen” seem like a major cliche when you see them on internet, at least to me. Maybe because people share that all the time, probably without thinking, and their meaning seems to be lost. But those are TRUE. I swear.
You don’t actually know how you look to other people, let’s be honest. You know how when you buy something new you’re like WOW I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW GREAT THIS IS and then after a while you get used to it? Well it goes the same with yourself, you kinda got used to yourself. Things that seem pretty normal and average to you may look amazing to others; and i’m not only talking about physical appearance but about you character, too.
I was honestly amazed when people told me what they admired about me because i never thought about it twice or i thought everyone does that too. Specially because i don’t consider myself.. well, the best person you’ll ever meet (maybe because i know myself too well? Also because i sometimes have God complex and sometimes doubts are killing me. Who flies high falls low. Oh well). Sometimes i wonder why the hell people like me and why would they want to waste their time on me. But they do. And that’s something.
Also, i do this a lot and i’m sure many people do this too: I randomly notice a stranger or person i already know and i’m just blown away how good they look or how smart or cute they are but i don’t actually say anything because i think i would sound super creepy and i’m not really good at expressing that kind of things so they’ll never know it. So chances are someone noticed you that way as well.
Also, the words you say actually have an impact. Even if you don’t think they do. Another thing that surprised me. I imagined my words like an echo in an empty room that vanish right after they are spoken. But people remember. And for some reason, deep down, i haven’t got used to the fact that someone thinks about me or something i said in my absence.
But this is not just about me, because i’m not a lady from medieval Italian or Provencal poetry who is extraordinary in every single way and people completely adore her for her amazing beauty, charm and flawlessness. I’m a mess in every single way, just like everyone else. And if someone is able to love me, someone loves you, as well. You matter. If you’re having a bad day, I’d like to quote Rihanna: “Never a failure, always a lesson”. Bad times come to our life to teach us something and to force us to become better persons.

“Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.” – Neil Gaiman, The Sandman

(Note: This was written when i had a really bad day, so i grabbed a bar of chocolate and a tea, turned on the music and wrote myself what i needed to hear. It made me feel better, i hope it will make you feel a little bit better too).

  1. I love that you are able to express yourself and work through your issues on paper. I have a hard time going deep in my writing but I have found that a good song can help me work through a lot of issues. I like how you think because I think you are right about how other people feel about you. It is hard to see our self-worth sometimes but it is also vitally important that we do learn the lesson and move on.

  2. I had a bad day today, so this is exactly what I needed to read! Thank you! Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we are loved and that we matter to other people. Sometimes we just need to hear something nice. And if we fall, we have to get on our feet again! That's life! :) So, don't give up! After all, if you can write like this, you are special!!!

  3. This was a nice read, I had a few bad days last month and decided that I would continue in my journey of staying strong and positive and to make April my month of motivation and positivity. Nowadays, people are hesitant to compliment each other and say a good word - however, this could really change someones day ad brighten their day up so I try to say something nice to a person when I think it. It is not easy to do with strangers, especially for a shy person like me, so I wait for a smile, eye contact, then I say something nice. We can all do better to encourage each other.

  6. Hey there, we all have one of those days. No one is exempted. It's definitely important to keep your head up when life tends to force it down. I actually just blogged about that. lol

I'd say, don't underestimate or put yourself down too much. Everyone is special. I truly believe in that. There are people that care for you. If you've found them...good. If not, then you eventually will. Just be you.

Thanks for sharing. You came up with a great post.

  7. Anyone who says they never had a bad day is a liar. So having a bad day makes us human and writing about it is expressing yourself, isn't it? Having a bad day, it is true that changing mindset can either be easy or difficult, but one thing remains constant, gotta do something that makes you happy. Gotta take a step back, get something done. The combination of accomplishing something that makes you happy is enough to reset and start over throughout the rest of the day.

  9. I feel like this is something I would write to myself whenever I feel sad. I know how amazing (and quite shocking) it is to hear from other people that they find something about me charming, or nice, or admirable. Yes, I sometimes have the "God complex" too, haha. I know the feeling of looking at someone I know and thinking, 'Damn, she's really cute" or "he's so attractive" but being scared to tell them as I may come up as a creep. Hahaha. Thank you for taking the time to write this post. I'll say it again: this sounds like something I'd write to a T. Is it also an odd coincidence we're using the same theme too?! Haha. Chocolates and tea. Yum.

  12. This is a really great post and a really good idea to write things down when you're having a bad day! It's important to feel good about ourselves, we give off a special energy when we are feeling particularly good. And I sometimes do what you said about complimenting people even if they're strangers it can really give you a boost!

  13. You're so right. It's important to realize your self-worth and sometimes to do that, we have to step back and realize how wonderful we all are! I like what you said about all of us being a mess, it's just so true. :)

  14. I myself always came to a point that things didn't go according to my plans and for someone who is very emotional like me, it always make me feel so down but a friend of mine told me that if things are not doing well on your way, you should not worry because God has a better plan for you and He is just taking you in a path that you should be in...
as for the ice cream part.. you know what.. it really works effectively to me and same thing with chocolates.. both are my guilty pleasures

  15. Like you, I always turn to chocolate when I'm having a bad day. Dark chocolate and music. Great therapy. I also write it down too, well sometimes. And try to repeat the phrase: "This too shall pass" in my head. And yes, each one of us matters. And all of our mistakes matter too, for without them, how can we appreciate our success? :)

  16. Yes! There is never a bad time for ice cream. Seriously though, i love the therapeutic style of writing here. It's like you are soothing yourself out loud. Really nice post. I also use music as a huge coping strategy myself.

  17. Writing and expressing your thoughts, or writing to yourself is a good exercise to flush the negative energy in us. And I liked your combination, coffee and tea :) - Sonnie

  19. It's not about pretending not to have bad days. Every one has them, and the life is about how we handle the bad days. Or the bad weeks. Or the bad years. I had a hard time and ice cream can just help. Or chocolate or whatever you're craving. It's good that you're honest, sometimes life is as easy as it is and sometimes its hard. But never give up. www.sofasosabine.com

  22. Sometimes, we just have those bad days without reason at all. I used to binge-eat when I had a bad day. But now I'm being healthier--I sweat it out at the gym! Who knew sweating could make you feel so good afterwards?

  24. When I am having a bad day, I will always believe about the quote "This thou shalt pass". And so I will grab an ice cream too and watch a movie! I hope you are feeling better now.

  25. I just wanted to say that everyone matters. And that no one is perfect. This is so cliche, I know, but it's true :) I've learned this the hard way, but we have to learn to love ourselves before we can really truly be happy. But yes, I agree that ice cream always helps!

  26. This is beautiful! I've always known that writing has a cathartic effect, but most of the time, I write my actual feelings, which are negative at the moment of writing. It's nice to read about your insight, and it's very smart to be reflective and write about positive words about yourself, and words of encouragement as well. Not just about the drama. :P I am also an ice cream girl, especially Ben&Jerrys cookie dough. Nothing relieves emo-ness than a cup of your favorite ice cream. ;) Go girl!
